Annual May Concert
Our Annual Concert this year has certainly got people talking. Our Tenor sax player can’t shop in Bowketts without people saying “Hello Baby Bear!” - This may not seem strange as we have a reputation for performing funny sketches, and this year it was ‘Goldilocks & the 3 Bears’. The only slight strange thing is that our Tenor Sax player is 50 something and 6ft+!! If you didn’t see it you will have to ask someone that did!
There was a real mix of superb music including 2 pieces from Ballets (complete with dancers!), a Beatles Medley, The Gael from Last of the Mohicans and soloists galore. The lovely comments from the audience were fantastic, ‘great variety’, ‘ Best concert ever’, and everyone loves to see the youngsters playing and enjoying being involved in the concert.
It was also our first opportunity to wear our new concert uniform, burgundy waistcoats. These have been talked about for years and we were very grateful to receive donations which has allowed us to buy more jumpers and new waistcoats.
The Annual Achievement Award was presented to Sue Salmon on flute. It was really hard to choose this year as there were so many good candidates. The Gladys Kitchen Memorial Cup was awarded to Steven Parker for all his work behind the scenes, particularly the amazing lighting effects during the concerts.
A fantastic evening, for all involved.
